Our therapists will use a range of soft tissue techniques, mobilisation, therapeutic exercise prescription and education regarding your particular presentation to ensure a successful and timely recovery.
Back pain is a very common condition, with up to 85% of the population being affected at some time in their lives. Most people (90%) will improve over a 3 month period, but nearly 50% will have at least one recurrence of their back pain (Brukner and Khan, 2006). A review of the evidence for the effective management of acute lower back pain (0-6 weeks) identifies early and gradual activation and discouragement of prescribed bed rest (Koes et al, 2010). Our team at Eastside Physiotherapy see first hand the benefits of an active approach to the management of this injury, and given the relatively high recurrence rate we challenge ourselves to identify and correct any contributing factors that could lead to a recurrence.
For chronic back pain (persisting greater than 6 weeks) a supervised progressive exercise program is important in addition to ensuring you have a good understanding of the injury and the management approach. Our Physiotherapists are also skilled at identifying more serious presentations of back pain and will help facilitate further investigation and management.
